The Tweed Run

Submission by Chris Bean

On Saturday, 18 April, hundreds of cyclists dressed in tweed, mostly on vintage bikes, took part in the annual Tweed Run in London.

Five members of our Street SIG were there to watch.

This event began with a small group of friends back in 2008 and has since grown, with about 800 people riding this year.

Spectators don’t get the route until 10 am on the day, so it was a bit of a guessing game to be in the right spot at the right time. The starting bell rang at 10 am in Clerkenwell, east London, and the cyclists headed to the finish line at St Pancras Gardens near King’s Cross, enjoying a route that included a tea break in Russell Square and lunch at Lincoln’s Inn Fields. We met them around Saville Row, and you can see some of the photos we took below. It was a fantastic day to practice our street portraits and panning shots, though the tricky part was finding a clean background.
