Special Interest Group – Nature
FCC has a number of photographers interested in different aspects of nature photography, and there is a Special Interest Group (SIG) dedicated to the theme.
Nature as a genre has a wide-ranging scope. It is the capture of images of elements of nature. This includes living entities (eg animals, birds, insects), plants and even macro. Wildlife is seen as a subset of the Nature classification, representing living entities that are unrestrained in a natural or adopted habitat.
For the purpose of ‘open’ themed club competition and for personal enjoyment, there are no real restrictions on the images, and the SIG reflects that as representing a broad selection of styles, both in content and presentation. For formal nature comnpetitions, the images should represent a true reflection of the scene taken – only limited processing such as cropping, or dodging and burning is allowed.
The group members run occasional self-organised trips to capture new images and have scheduled on-line sessions to discuss topics and critique images taken by the members.
The SIG is open to any member of the club. Active participation is encouraged, although not mandatory. There is no club subsidy for the group, but many nature outings make use of the open spaces around us without cost.
