Guest Speaker – Chris Knight
On Thursday 12th March Chris Knight came to the club to give a presentation on “Pet Photography”.

Chris is a professional photographer specialising in animal photography. His presentation was split into two sections – firstly a selection of his images, followed by a demonstration of the editing techniques used to produce the final image.
The images presented probably represented the biggest awww-fest in the recent history of the club. Starting with a selection of images of cats, Chris moved on to cover dogs, horses, and pets with their owners amongst others. All the images were top quality. However, Chris is an extremely good presenter so it wasn’t just a succession of images but they were accompanied by amusing anecdotes, explanations of settings and techniques, and descriptions of kit used.
The second half of the presentation covered basic editing techniques for pet portraiture – first an example in a natural environment, then a studio example.
When Chris found he could have another half an hour he offered to show some of his underwater shots. These were obviously a different category to his ‘pet photography’ images, but without a doubt it was a bonus section that the members appreciated. Many of the images are available to view on Chris’ web site, but again it was the commentary and anecdotes which added so much context and meaning to the shots.
This was an excellent presentation, both in the quality of the images and in the personable manner it was given.
