John De-Terville – SCPF Role of Honour
On Thursday 14th May the club had another visit from Stewart Lacey in the role of ‘Past President’ of the Southern Counties Photographic Federation (SCPF), before he hands the reins over to Suzie Kirkby. Stewart was at the club to award the SCPF ‘Roll of Honour’ award to John De-Terville.
The full transcript of Stewart’s speech is not available, but the following is an outline based on the nomination to the SCPF.
John has been with Farnborough Camera Club some 17 years having joined in the 2008/09 season. John soon established himself as ‘one of the workers’, helping with the running of the club via marketing and becoming website manager. He was the tall chap who could reach the top of the print stands and was in charge of presenting the prints in the light box during competitions. He then became programme secretary for a few years and would arrive at committee meetings with colour coded printed sheets for everyone so that we could see how things were progressing. In the meantime, John progressed in the photographic ranks and joined our top class, Advanced, by 2015 and was known as one of our top Portrait photographers. John was always on hand to help at the club portrait sessions and has also arranged Portrait Workshops during our close season. In 2022 John was awarded his LRPS. Finally, he keeps the committee on their toes, but he is always polite and constructive with his suggestions.
