Competition against Oberursel 2025
On Thursday 30th October the club made use of the last Thursday online session (with no meeting hall available) to hold the annual competition against the German club Photo-Cirkel Oberursel. This is a German town that is twinned with Farnborough, so there are a number of community links between the towns.
The photography competition is an annual event. Up until 2023 Oberursel were invited to take part in our ‘Set Subject’ competition. However, with the change in internal competition structure made by Farnborough in 2024, it is now a straight marked open competition.
This year the competition was judged by Gordon Brown ARPS. He observed that it was the first time he had acted as an international judge! When commenting that he was pleased to see the international spirit between the clubs, he seemed very impressed when told that the competition had been running in some form for 17 years.
In the event, Farnborough took the honours with a score of 171.5 to 164.5.
There were 11 images held back by the judge, which he then gave marks of 9, 9.5 or 10. The held images showed how close the competition really was – of the 11 images, 6 were from Farnborough and 5 were from Oberursel. Two images were awarded 10s, both from Farnborough.

The remaining images scored a 9.5 or 9
