A NOSTALGIC VISIT
As kids we spent many holidays on the East coast of Lincolnshire. So this Autumn we decided to re-visit there to see what, if anything, had changed over the years. Lincolnshire’s coastal resorts were never ‘up-market’ more fish ‘n chips and buckets a spades and over the passing years nothing really seems to have changed. All images taken on an iPhone.

During 2024 I started a project on dogs and their owners. This image is perhaps my favourite from this project. It was very much a grabbed shot taken on my iPhone on a very busy train from Basingstoke to Birmingham. The dog seemed totally relaxed sitting on his owner’s lap. Image was converted to mono using the native ‘Noir” preset, with some additional editing in Snapseed.

Alan Brown – A Collection of Images
A number of images of life and ‘stuff’. And a dog. Many of the images are from Aldershot.

This has a home for me as it reminds me of my 1st Grandchild, born this year. A Spring walk at a local arboretum gave for a pleasant occasion and a memory.

Not an original concept, but for me it was creating an image where for many of us we face loss. This could be a husband, a wife, child or friend. We’re only here for a short time and the impact we make lives as a memory.

The culmination of practicing macro photography throughout the year resulted in this detailed yet soft image.

So happy to capture the detail of this majestic low flying owl over the pond.

After a busy 12 months of travels here are four images from my selection of favourites in 2024.
I have been visiting the Welsh valleys for over 10 years now and I love the challenge of capturing the planes as they scream through practising low level flying. This F-15E was lower than all the photographers on the hills.
The Richmond Park rut is another annual pilgrimage and sometimes I am lucky to catch images of deer and photographers.
Passing through Liverpool Street station on a street photography workshop I spotted this couple deep in conversation oblivious to the passersby.
And finally, every visit to London starts with a visit to Leake Street under Waterloo to photograph the ever-changing street art that decorates the tunnel walls and to look for street photography opportunities on people on their way to work. This one was taken with my iPhone.

Favourite print entry – Oxburgh Hall. I really enjoy visiting historic buildings such as this National Trust House in Norfolk and I also like framing a panoramic view so that you see the whole building in its context. Its often a challenge to bring out the soft colours of the brickwork in the sunshine and the resulting image for me is one of peace and timelessness.

Favourite PDI entry – Swallowtail Seaperch Among the Coral. I was fortunate enough to visit Valencia in October and on one day went to the aquarium, the “Oceanogràfic”. This has some splendid displays which I attempted to capture with my mobile phone – not easy since you are fighting unwanted reflections on the glass. I love this depiction of life in a small part of the Mediterranean. It is also a reminder of the fragility of life since the complex in which the aquarium is housed was the assembly point for the volunteers who came to clean up after devastating floods hit the region only 2 weeks later.

This gallery includes about a dozen of my favourite images taken during the year. They are not a ‘collection’ as such but a number of them reflect enjoyable visits to parks and gardens. In addition there is another from the aquarium, a couple from “the Longest Yarn” exhibit at the Garrison Church in November and a couple of street shots, one from London and the other taken in Cambridge.

Kerry has his favourite 10 images of 2024. He first published them on his facebook page, but has allowed me to take his images and accompanying text. The format of it lends itself to the Member Story posts, so Kerry’s ‘Best of 2024’ can be found here at this post.
